We asked her to share insights about his Brown & Brown Absence Services Group career and what excites her about the organization’s future. Here’s what Megan had to say.

What led you to work here?

I joined Brown & Brown Absence Services Group in 2016 as part of what was then The Advocator Group’s acquisition of Social Security Advocates for the Disabled (SSAD). While acquisitions can sometimes bring a level of uncertainty for employees, that was never the case for me. Bringing The Advocator Group and SSAD together was more like coming home, an extended family reunion of sorts where we were able to bring together our individual strengths and talents to support more disabled individuals with access to professional SSDI advocacy services and Medicare decision support and create possibilities for both new and expanding partnerships.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

While there are many things I enjoy about my role, including the opportunity to partner with our LTD Carriers and work creatively to solve challenges across our business, I would have to say that I enjoy our teammates most of all. We have so many deeply committed, talented teammates working across our organization, and I feel fortunate to have developed meaningful professional and personal relationships with many of them as colleagues and friends.

What is your work background?

I think it’s fair to say that I grew up in this business. I began my career in the SSDI Advocacy world, starting part-time as a college senior. The day after I graduated, I began working full-time in what we would now call a Client Advocate role, and from there, I worked my way up to managing a team, then managing an SSDI operation from new customer onboarding through the post-award process. I became a non-attorney representative in 2012. Over the years, I expanded my work into the market, attending many industry conferences and working closely with our LTD carrier partners to implement new business initiatives and ensure we delivered exceptional service and optimized our partnership results.

What makes you excited about the goals and future of the company?

While there is much to be excited about, I’m especially excited to see our growth as an Employment Network with the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Ticket to Work program and the expansion of our Medicare solutions. Making the right decisions relative to Medicare enrollment is complicated and stressful, and I’m proud that our team can help more individuals navigate that very important health decision.

How do you go about prioritizing in a role that is so varied?

I think of prioritizing as a form of triaging where I determine if something needs my immediate attention or that of someone on my team. The faster and more effectively I can loop in the right stakeholders to solve an emerging challenge; the better and more proactive, clear communication is absolutely the key to success. I also find it helpful to block calendar time for specific initiatives – even if I have to move around that specific block of time, naming it for that purpose helps me ensure I accomplish a critical task.

At its core, strong leadership goes beyond decision-making; it’s about inspiring individuals to reach their full potential collectively. This approach ensures that the organization not only endures but flourishes.
